BASEMENTS

What are some of the benefits of replacing my existing basement with a new one?

Replacing your basement can allow you to:

  • Remain in your family home.

  • Create new and beautiful liveable space to enjoy for years to come.

  • Realize long-term benefits including preserving or increasing the value of a home.

  • Spend less time and money versus building a new home.

  • Work with one company who ensures insurance and liability needs are met.

What is the process used to replace a basement in an existing home?

  • The house is removed and raised from the existing foundation and blocked safely in its current location.

  • The old foundation is removed and recycled.

  • The area is excavated and secured with a 6-foot fence.

  • The new foundation (ICF foundation, standard concrete, or your preferred foundation) is installed.

  • The house is lowered onto the newly constructed basement.

  • At this point your plumber has completed rough-ins.

  • A new concrete floor is poured.

  • We will put down crushed rock, weeping tile, waterproof membrane, and do a back fill to rough grade.

How long will it take to replace my current basement?

The process of raising your home, removing the old foundation, and replacing it with a new one generally may take about six to eight weeks depending on the weather and other circumstances, such as your plumber being able to complete your rough-ins in a timely manner.

What will it cost to replace my current basement?

The cost to replace a basement varies according to size and type of basement foundation you wish to build. Please request a free online quote or call us at (306) 931-2249.

What are my options regarding the structure of my basement?

When deciding what type of foundation to use for your new basement, a number of factors need to be considered, such as the location of your home and the type of soil your home sits on, to name a few. We can help you with that decision. As the industry grows and changes, so do the type of materials used to construct new basements, such as standard concrete, ICF foundation, and wood.

Are there any costs I need to be prepared for?

You will need to provide the plumbing, electrical, and all finishing work required, such as drywall, flooring, doors and windows, etc.

What kind of insurance do I need?

We offer extensive protection including cargo and liability, moving, and lifting insurance through trusted providers.

Can I live in my house during the project?

No, for the time during the process you will have to make arrangements for a temporary home until utilities are hooked up.

Do I need to move any furnishing or other belongings out of the house before it is lifted?

Furnishings may be left in your home during the lifting process, but dishes, wall hangings, and other breakable belongings should be placed somewhere safe where they cannot be damaged. Canadian Basements is not responsible for any damage caused to belongings or the interior of the home during the lifting process; therefore you may want to check with your insurance provider on contents insurance.

I have an attached garage—does it get lifted as well?

Yes it does.

Will my home be damaged during the lifting/replacement?

Sometimes cracks may occur on drywalled walls, especially over doorways. There shouldn't be more than normal settling of a new house would cause. Plaster houses may show more cracks because the new foundation will not be exactly the same as the old one and adjustment may cause cracks. No structural damage will occur as a result of the move.

What are the environmental benefits of replacing my basement?

By replacing the foundation you are saving your home and protecting the environment at the same time! For further facts see recycling benefits on the side bar.

Fact: Did you know that by moving a 2000 square foot house you have saved 6000 feet of wood boards, which is equivalent to thirty three mature trees?
